Just a little quibble with something that was stated in the article. The Space Shuttle Enterprise was given the designation OV-101 by NASA. The "OV" in the designation stands for "Orbital Vehicle." The Enterprise was always supposed to be a flight worthy shuttle just like the Columbia, Discovery, and Atlantis. However, during the construction of OV-101, a lot of information was gained about how to build a space shuttle. One of the many things that were changed on OV-102 Columbia was a new lighter thrust structure for the SSMEs. Dismantling the entire rear end of OV-101 to install the new thrust structure would have been very expensive and time consuming. The pre-production prototype STA-099 was built to the same specs as the flight articles but was a bare bones frame used for stress testing (STA standing for "structural test article"). Because it was only partially assembled, it was cheaper and less time consuming to rebuild STA-099 as a flight worthy article with the newer thrust structure. NASA changed its designation to OV-099 and was given the name Challenger, taking the Enterprise's slot. OV-105 Endeavour was built from spares made during the construction of the other orbiters.

They went through a lot of effort to take an okay real photo and make it look like great cartoon. The tow bar, the air hose, the SUV behind, all got shopped out. They even took off the airdata probe and the red "remove before flight" pin for the left main gear.
